Unwanted Medication Disposal
Do you have prescription or over the counter medications that are no longer needed or expired? The old advice was to flush them down the toilet, but that's not the case anymore! The apporpriate way to dispose of unneeded medication is to drop them at "take back" facilities. The will accept ALL medications.
ABOUT THE TAKE-BACK PROGRAMS
Where and when can I drop off my old medicines?
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Boise City Hall West, 333 N. Sailfish Place, off Emerald Street, between Five Mile and Maple Grove roads.
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Garden City Police Station, 301 E. 50th St.
- Around-the clock at the Ada County Sheriff's Office, 7200 Barrister Drive.
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Meridian Police Department, 1401 E. Watertower.
Do I need to bag up my medicines or take other measures before I drop them off?
- Medicines must be bagged.
- Liquid containers must be sealed in plastic bags to prevent spills.
- Don't leave items that don't fit in the chute. Ask at the counter for assistance.
Are there some medicines or medical supplies that are not accepted?
- Needles, lancets, pen needles, aerosol cans, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, thermometers and IV bags.
